  3. The Science of Cashmere | Understanding the Fibre and its Benefits

  4. People also ask
Cashmere may also be blended with other fibers to bring the garment cost down, or to gain their properties, such as elasticity from wool, or sheen from silk. The town of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, in the United States was an incubator for the cashmere wool industry. It had the first power looms for woolens and the first manufacture of "satinets".
Cashmere wool comes from breeds of goat which are found predominately in Mongolia, Tibet, China, Pakistan and Iran and make up a population of barely 110 million worldwide. The number may seem large, but indeed it isn't: in fact, each goat is able to supply no more than 300 grams of wool—250 grams on average—per year.
Cashmere, derived from the wool of the Changthangi or Himalayan goat, transcends its material existence. This fibre, renowned for its unparalleled softness and fineness, has been draped over shoulders in celebration, woven into narratives of love, and passed down through generations as a symbol of prestige.
Cashmere is one of the softest and most luxurious forms of wool, characterized by the fineness of the fibers, which are almost silky. It’s considered one of the most high-end fibers, as pure cashmere can be very expensive due to the involved production process, where the fibers are separated by hand from the molted coats of goats.
