In Romania, a vignette is required for all motor vehicles, except motorcycles. This applies to all road sections in Romania. Trailers, such as those pulled by vehicles, are not separately tolled in Romania. However, commercial vehicles are assigned to a different vehicle class.

Anyone driving on the Romanian roads must, according to law, (Government ordinance no. 15/2002 on the introduction of a tax for using the national road network in Romania, and ordinance no. 769/2010 on the approval of Methodological Standards for the toll levied on national road network in Romania) pay a road toll called rovinieta.

A Romanian vignette (or rovinieta) is a digital vignette necessary on the Romanian toll roads that can be obtained online without visiting the sales points, such as filling stations. No physical sticker should be put on the windscreen, as the procedure is entirely online.
