    Tyge Brahe was born on 14 December 1546 in Skåne (aka Scania, modern Sweden), which was then ruled by the Danish Crown. He is today better known by his Latinized name Tycho Brahe, most often simply as Tycho. He was born into a noble family with connections to the royal family of Sweden.
    Tycho Brahe worked on Hven from 1576 to 1597 observing stars and planets with new instruments. From 1599 he lived in Prague as the Imperial Mathematician. On the 24th of October 1601 he suffered a painful death caused by mercury, which he had ingested because he thought it was good for his health.
    The expression Tycho Brahe days referred to "unlucky days" that were featured in almanacs from the 1700s onwards, but which have no direct connection to Tycho or his work. Whether because Tycho realized that astrology was not an empirical science, or because he feared religious repercussions, he did not publicise his own astrological work.
